This Summer’s big cycling challenge has raised over £9,500 for islanders affected by cancer.
Jacksons sponsored the Mac100, a 100k which saw more than 180 islanders pedalling their way around Jersey on Sunday 14th August, in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support Jersey.
Whilst some cyclists challenged themselves to complete the course as quickly as they could, with several finishing in just over three hours, others took their time to soak up the beauty of Jersey which the challenging route is designed to highlight. All those who completed the course received their finishers medal.
Meanwhile, making sure everyone stayed hydrated and energised Jacksons provided complimentary water, fruit and snacks to ensure the riders were sufficiently refuelled at the refreshments stops manned by Macmillan volunteers.
Commenting on the event, Andrew Searle, General Manager at Jacksons said, “We were delighted to be a part of the Mac100 for the second year running and to be supporting this fantastic local charity which provides such vital support and wellbeing services for those with cancer, their family and friends.
“There were some very impressive results posted and we’d like to thank everyone for making this event another great success!”
Jacksons once again donated raffle prizes including a selection of additional cycling related goodies and the top prize - a Porsche Silverstone track day and Sean Le Breuilly was the lucky winner of that.
Organisers Rob Kean and Adrian Rowland said, "We are so grateful to Jacksons for their support and for covering all our overheads which ensures that all money raised by the riders and their generous supporters goes directly to Macmillan Jersey so they can continue providing emotional, practical and well-being support to anyone affected by cancer."
Steph Gibaut CEO of Macmillan Jersey said, “Another incredibly organised and wonderful Mac100. We are so grateful to Jacksons and the organisers Rob and Adrian for not only raising much needed funds for the charity but also raising awareness for the services we provide here in Jersey.
“Having volunteered at the event myself, it was so incredible to see the enthusiasm and excitement of all the cyclists arriving at registration to do their 100k in aid of Macmillan Jersey. A huge thank you to everyone that took part in the challenge and all those volunteering on the day to make it as smooth as possible. Sadly, we know 1 in 2 people will hear the words ‘you have cancer’ and we want to ensure that everyone affected by cancer will continue to have access to emotional, practical and wellbeing support. Events like this in our community ensure this is possible. We are extremely grateful!”
