Check your tyres
Cold weather and high temperatures can affect your tyre pressure so, it’s important to check them regularly.
It’s best to check them when the tyres are cold, so you don’t get a false reading.
You’ll find the correct pressure for your vehicle listed in your handbook, inside the door shuts or on the inside of the fuel flap.
Don’t forget to check the condition of your tyres – front tyres will wear quicker than those at the rear so you can rotate them to get the most out of them and to equalise the tread wear.
If you had switched to winter tyres, it’s time to change them back.
Before you remove your tyres, check your breaks….
Inspect Your Breaks
Test your breaks and listen out for any unusual sounds. They may have got a bit clogged with impurities like sand and dirt so it’s important to check them and take note of their response times.
Check Your Alignment
The winter weather causes more potholes in the road and driving over them can cause your vehicle problems. You can check if your steering alignment is ok by seeing if the car veers to one side when driving. If this is the case then you should address it as soon as possible as this can cause extra tension on the tyres - which wears them out more quickly. If there is a problem it is important to get the alignment sorted as soon as possible.
Give Your Car A Good Wash
Salt, dirt and grime can build up on your car during the Winter months which can lead to rust and other problems, so it’s time to give it a really thorough clean. Spray it down, and give it a good wash under the bumpers, beneath the wheel wells and anywhere else that dirt can get into. Then give it a warm wash with a proper vehicle shampoo.
Check Your Windscreen Wipers
Most windscreen wipers only last six months to a year so, it’s probably time to replace them. Check them by giving your windscreen a wash with the windscreen fluid and see how well the wipers deal with the water. If they are still working well, just give them a good clean.
Spring Clean the inside
We spend a lot of time in our cars so give it a good spring clean, getting rid of any clutter.
Thoroughly clean your floor mats and make sure your carpets are dry. Damp can cause problems for electrical wiring under the carpet. Don’t forget to check your pedals haven’t been worn down by all the winter dirt on your shoes!
Check the rest
Check your battery, spark plugs, hoses, belts, fluid and oil levels. It might be time to swap your air filter for a new one as the winter dirt can reduce the mileage your car gets.
Why not book your car in for a service with us and we can give it the Spring check-up it needs!
